Power Electronics

In the use of renewable energies, power electronics is of great importance in the conversion of electrical energy. The share of electrical energy processed by power electronics is constantly growing and includes generation, transport and distribution up to the final consumption. The Fraunhofer Energy Alliance has set itself the goal of increasing the efficiency, availability and service life of power electronic systems at reduced overall costs. Within the framework of numerous projects, research is being conducted into the development and integration of corresponding systems, primarily in the field of electromobility. The portfolio of the Fraunhofer Energy Alliance also includes the development of compact and energy-efficient power converters.

Inductive Charging / Wireless Power

Compared to charging through power cables, inductive charging offers numerous advantages: This makes it a flexible and convenient solution that has fewer potential hazards and enables improved integration into the energy supply network. Bidirectional inductive charging, especially in the field of electromobility, increases user comfort through automated charging processes and can thus increase user acceptance of electric vehicles. Member institutes of the Fraunhofer Energy Alliance are researching the possibilities of wireless charging of electric vehicles and are testing the performance of corresponding systems under real conditions.



Bidirectional Inductive Charging

The project idea is to develop a wireless, inductive, bidirectional energy transmission system for electric vehicles.



As part of the »BiLawE« project, a bidirectional inductive charging system and its economical integration into the power grid are being implemented.


Inductive Charging

Development of an inductive charging system for battery electric vehicles, which enables an autonomous charging process without any user interaction.
