Highly Efficient DC / DC Converter

Bidirectional DC / DC converters are increasingly being used today in regenerative energy systems for coupling energy storage devices. In many such applications, the rated voltage of the energy storage devices is getting higher to achieve high efficiency. Accordingly, it often happens that the areas of the input and output voltage of the converter overlap when charging and discharging the energy storage. Consequently, this requires a type of DC / DC converters that can operate in both step-down and step-up modes.

Fraunhofer ISIT offers high efficiency bidirectional DC-DC converter with wide input and output voltage range. The switching frequency is adaptively modulated depending on operating points. In this manner, the Zero Voltage Switching of the converter can be guaranteed over a wide power range. Simultaneously, the conduction losses in the switches as well as the power losses in the passive components can be minimized.
