International and interdisciplinary: The second "E3C – Electrochemical Cell Concepts Colloquium" will take place on May 6, 2021

"Functional components", "Characterization", "Manufacturing", "Cell and stack design": These are the main topics of this year's "E3C – Electrochemical Cell Concepts Colloquium". On May 6, 2021, researchers will discuss similarities and potential combinations of electrochemical reactor designs – interdisciplinary, international and virtual. The event is organized by the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety, and Energy Technology UMSICHT.

After the successful premiere last year, the colloquium will be held for the second time in 2021.

It is the second edition of the event, which celebrated its premiere last year and offered almost 140 experts from 13 countries a platform for exchange. Jan Girschik, scientist at Fraunhofer UMSICHT, has therefore not changed the basic objective: "In 2021, we are once again taking a look at characteristics and the latest findings of different reactor types in order to be able to find and use synergies and thereby advance the overall state of research," he explains. "Scientists from different disciplines will talk about their work on batteries, fuel cells and electrolyseurs as well as water treatment reactors, and thereby giving participants input for further developments and innovations.“

The keynotes will be given by Prof. Dr. Christina Roth and Prof. Dr. Erik Kjeang. While Prof. Dr. Roth from the University of Bayreuth will talk about hydrogen bubble templating for the generation of porous structures, the talk of Prof. Dr. Kjeang from Canada's Simon Fraser University will be on membraneless flow cells for the electrochemical energy conversion.

Other speakers will come from Harvard University, the British universities of Loughborough and Southampton, Sweden's KTH Royal Institute of Technology, the Institute for Microsystems Technology at the University of Freiburg, HAW Hamburg, the Center for Fuel Cell Technology (ZBT), the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT), J. Schmalz GmbH, RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich.

The second "E3C – Electrochemical Cell Concepts Colloquium" will take place as an online conference from 8:30 to 17:00 (UTC+2). The language of the event is English. The participation fee is 60 euros. A contingent of free tickets is available for students. If this is exhausted, the reduced participation fee is 20 euros.
