DigitalTwin Battery Cell

DigitalTwin Battery Cell

Battery manufacturing processes are complex and involve a wide range of chemical, electrical and mechanical data. Since Industry 4.0 is becoming the focus of global manufacturing transformation, Digital Twins have become a key element in the transformation of manufacturing systems. They hold the promise to improve process and product quality while leveraging on available data sources and simulation models. Digital representations for individual battery cells exist, however, with regard to the battery manufacturing industry a Digital Twin needs to be refined, elaborated and implemented. The aim of the presented paper is to estimate the life cycle behavior of battery packs through estimates from their Digital Twins. Here, we outline the implementation of a Digital Twin using a multi-scale modelling and simulation approach. It includes a battery cell and a pack which is flexible for additional connection to the Digital Twin of its manufacturing process. In our results we show that the Digital Twin accurately represents the product and its manufacturing process and can be further tested for real world conditions data.
