Energy and Catalyst Technology

Fraunhofer IMM - Reactor technology for catalytic combustion

Focus: Fuel processing

As experts in microtechnology, Fraunhofer IMM develops systems for fuel processing from virtually all types of feedstock. IMM provides services throughout the whole development chain, from initial modelling and simulation studies to reactor design, fabrication, and complete system testing. Additionally, we develop reactors for chemical reactions typically found in fuel processing, such as water-gas-shift and selective oxidation, catalytic combustion and sustainable fuel synthesis such as methanation.

The IMM portfolio includes catalysts and reactors for a wide range of applications and the development of specific balance-of-plant components such as heat exchangers and evaporators. Innovative storage and distribution concepts in hydrogen technology and supply of energy via decentralised combined-heat-and-power generation are also focal points of our know-how.

We develop catalysts and catalytic coatings for micro-structures for our customers, which are optimally adapted to reactor type and process scale. Improving the properties of existing catalysts for reliable use in the actual process environment is also part of our service portfolio
